What about a Kapsalon, or is that ‘Rotterdam cuisine’?
When I was young and innocent I thought ‘ How practical , having your hair cut while your were eating ! ‘ What do I know 🙂
You’re not very wrong.
A Rotterdam barber was very busy and asked his next door shoarmasalesman for something easy to eat. He made that and the barber was eating it. A customer wanted some to and the barber said he could order it next door and that he could refer to the ‘kapsalon’….

Chocolade letter, nog nooit ergens anders gezien dan in Nederland. Beschuit met roze/blauwe muisjes ook niet. Dit zijn toch wel twee traditionele Nederlandse producten.
I think the deep-frying culture of the Dutch should get a spotlight all of its own. We pretty much fry anything that contains meat or can be covered in bread-crumbs. I mean, who can forget the bamischijf or the kaassoufflé, or even the berenklauw?

And Peanutbutter, kroket (croquettes), bitterballen (same deal), vla (custard), satay, smoked eel and french fries are? I think the dutch variation on pancakes are way more specific to our eating culture than many of those things.
I agree! I was stationed in Holland for three years at Soesterberg AB and Pannenkoeken were our favorite.

Nasi Rames – it’s actually a dish the Indonesians came up with to please the ducht i.e. rice with an assortment of other dishes all on one plate.
Dutch shrimp with whiskey sauce, Dutch petit fours, and don’t forget borrelnootjes and pepsils! The best ever, slip tong.

Peanut cheese (peanut butter) is not a Dutch speciality; you can find it in many counties. Hagelslag is not Dutch but I think we’re the only ones that sprinkle them on our sandwiches, just like chocoladevlokken. Chocolate letters is a favourite Sinterklaas treat.

Wortelstamp met doorgebakken spek, boerenkool met worst (liefst Hemaworst), zuurkool met blokjes doorgebakken spek en worst, slastamp met spek en azijn, huzarensalade, satésaus, gehaktballen, Amsterdamse uitjes, Knorr kip Siam met Thaise roerbaksalade, Hela curry saus, piccalilly en bonbonbloc.

Patat or friet is not Dutch!! That’s Belgian. The Dutch eat it too, just like any other European. It’s like saying that pasta is Dutch, because they eat it so often. Pasta is Italian. Friet is Belgian.
Paprika chips, nibbits eigenlijk alle ‘normale’ Nederlandse chips, borrelnootjes zonder salt and vinegar smaak, braadworst, gemengd gekruid gehakt, vlokken (maar die zou ook onder het kopje hagelslag passen) bastogne koeken, canei wijn, kruiden mixen enz enz als ik zo doorga heb ik de halve supermarkt op het lijstje staan!
