Speculaas!!! Should definitely be on the list, the ‘speculoos’ that can be found in Belgium (Lotus cookies) is made with sugar instead of the spices that you need to make speculaas.

Peanut cheese (peanut butter) is not a Dutch speciality; you can find it in many counties. Hagelslag is not Dutch but I think we’re the only ones that sprinkle them on our sandwiches, just like chocoladevlokken. Chocolate letters is a favourite Sinterklaas treat.

Patat or friet is not Dutch!! That’s Belgian. The Dutch eat it too, just like any other European. It’s like saying that pasta is Dutch, because they eat it so often. Pasta is Italian. Friet is Belgian.
Paprika chips, nibbits eigenlijk alle ‘normale’ Nederlandse chips, borrelnootjes zonder salt and vinegar smaak, braadworst, gemengd gekruid gehakt, vlokken (maar die zou ook onder het kopje hagelslag passen) bastogne koeken, canei wijn, kruiden mixen enz enz als ik zo doorga heb ik de halve supermarkt op het lijstje staan!

I think the deep-frying culture of the Dutch should get a spotlight all of its own. We pretty much fry anything that contains meat or can be covered in bread-crumbs. I mean, who can forget the bamischijf or the kaassoufflé, or even the berenklauw?

I agree! I was stationed in Holland for three years at Soesterberg AB and Pannenkoeken were our favorite.
